Privacy

The Customs and Immigration Union is committed to maintaining the privacy of visitors to this site. All technical measures relating to the hosting of this site are managed under contract by the CIU.

CIU and its contractors do not automatically collect any personal information through this website. This information would only be obtained if it is supplied by contacting CIU, in which case the personal information will only be used to respond to a visitor’s specific inquiry or request and for no other purpose. To better safeguard their privacy, visitors who wish to contact the CIU should not include any personal information that is not required for responding to a comment or request. For instance, an e-mail request would not require a home or business address for the response.

Personal information submitted by visitors who wish to make comments or requests will not be disclosed to anyone outside the CIU unless authorized by the individual concerned, or unless required or authorized by law.

The CIU accepts no responsibility should any damages be caused to a person as a result of the use that is made of information provided in, or taken from, this site or as a result of reliance on the information available on the site.

This disclaimer of liability also applies to any damages or injury caused by any failure of performance, error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, computer virus, communication line failure, theft or destruction, or unauthorized access to, alteration of, or use of information under any cause of action.

Links

This site contains links to other sites. The CIU provides these links as a service and convenience to its visitors. It takes no responsibility for the content at third-party sites and a link to them in no way implies an endorsement or recommendation of the products, services or information found there.

A link to another site does not mean that the CIU is affiliated or associated with the owner of a linked site, or has editorial control over the site’s content. The CIU is not responsible for the privacy practice or the content of those sites. A third-party site may have a privacy policy different from that of the CIU Website and may provide less security than the CIU Website. The CIU disclaims all liability with regard to any access to linked web sites by visitors.

The CIU reserves the right to regularly review and re-evaluate any and all links and reserves the right to terminate any link without prior notification. The CIU allows for third-party web sites to provide links to its web site, as long as:

  • The third parties consider offering a link to the home page, in addition to linking to a specific page within the CIU site;
  • The CIU content is not displayed in a frame or presented inline at third-party sites;
  • Links to CIU web pages are periodically checked to ensure their integrity.

Social Media Standards

CIU is committed to creating an online community that both encourages self-expression and also reflects the value of the union, including respect for the dignity and rights of others. We ask all users to do their part to help us achieve this goal. In addition to adhering to the various social media standards – such as Facebook posting guidelines – we ask that you do not post content that is:

  • Threatening, abusive, defamatory, obscene, indecent or objectionable;
  • Fraudulent, deceptive, or misleading;
  • In violation of any intellectual property right of another;
  • In violation of any law or regulation;
  • Racist, homophobic or otherwise discriminatory in nature;
  • Commercial solicitation of goods or services;
  • Otherwise offensive, graphically or in tone.

At the discretion of the moderator, CIU reserves the right to remove any content or user that it determines contravenes these guidelines. In addition, CIU reserves the right to remove without notice any posts, comments, photos and/or any other content considered irrelevant to the discussion.

On Facebook, individual users can also use Facebook’s social reporting tools to report inappropriate or offensive content. Please note that content posted by users on CIU’s social media pages does not necessarily reflect the views or opinions of CIU.
