FB Members Rally in Cornwall

Following the last day of the Public Interest Commission (PIC) hearings, CIU members in Eastern Ontario (Branch 70027) demonstrated and handed out flyers in Cornwall to tell the employer that, as the country’s first line of defence, FB members (border services) are law enforcement officers – they deserve fair treatment and a fair contract. That’s why CIU and PSAC are advocating for parity with other law enforcement agencies for FB members.

Also demonstrating with the members were CIU National President Jean-Pierre Fortin, 2nd National Vice-President Chantal Rajotte, and Eastern Ontario Branch President Kim Poirier.

FB Members Rally in Front of Morneau’s Office

On November 23, 2017, CIU and PSAC members rallied in front of federal Finance Minister Bill Morneau’s office, in Toronto, to tell the government that FB members deserve to be treated fairly. Among the members present were CIU 1st VP Mark Weber, Toronto Branch President Frances Baroutoglou, and PSAC Ontario Regional Exec VP Sharon DeSousa.

The FB Group is composed of more than 8,000 members working for the Canadian Border Services. These members, who have been without a contract since June 2014, protect Canada’s borders. They are law enforcement, and they deserve a fair contract!

CIU and PSAC Rally for a Fair Contract for FB Members

On September 29, delegates and attendees participating in the 2017 National Convention rallied in front of CBSA offices in downtown Ottawa regarding the ongoing bargaining process with the government. FB members have been without a contract for more than 1200 days.

The Union sent a clear message to the Employer: Members are united and the FB group deserves a fair contract now. Among the major issues that were brought up were wage parity with other law enforcement agencies and ’25 and Out’ – the possibility of retiring after 25 years without penalty.

A video of the rally was published on our Facebook page. You can also find a few pictures of the demonstration below.

CIU Local 19 Marches With PSAC Local 501

On November 28, CIU Local 019 in Sarnia held a rally at the Blue Water Bridge crossing both in support of the CIU bargaining teams and as a display of solidarity with our Sisters and Brothers from PSAC local 501 in their ongoing strike for a fair contract.

With megaphones, banners, and flags leading the way, all members in attendance marched united on the public property of the Bluewater Bridge, making sure to stop under the managerial offices of the Federal Bridge Corporation to make their voices heard loudly and clearly.

The rally provided Local 501 with renewed energy as they continue their fight for a fair contract without concessions. Thank you to all Sisters and Brothers from Sarnia and those who joined them, including Sarnia Branch President Brother Coene, CIU Youth Rep Sister Baert, Toronto Branch President Brother Sutcliffe, Fort Erie Branch President Brother VanHelvert, and Fort Erie 1st VP Brother Kontogianis. Great job!
